Biography
LOWVILLE-Charles Edwin Vick, 79, of Athens, TN, formerly of Number Four
Road, Lowville, died on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Athens Regional
Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September, 24, 2011 at
Lowville Baptsit Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow in
Petries Corners Cemetery. The Vick family will receive family and friends
at the church from Noon – 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral. Arrangements are
with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
He is survived by his wife Janet Washburn Vick of Athens, two daughters
and sons-in-law, Carolyn Vick and Aad Zeeuw of Scarsdale, NY, and Cheryl
Vick Blanchard and Jody Shampine of Bainbridge, NY, three grandchildren
and 4 great-grandchildren, one sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Robert
Maynard of Chattanooga, TN and one brother and sister-in-law, Harry and
Patricia Vick of Chattanooga, TN. He is predeceased by two brothers,
Robert and Larry Vick.
He was born on October 15, 1931 in Benson, Arizona, a son of the late
Charles L. and Mary Boyd Vick. He graduated from Etowah High School in
1949. He served in in the U.S. Army from 1951-1952 and attended the
University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and graduated from State University
of New York Potsdam with his Bachelors and Masters Degree. He also
graduated from State University of New York, Albany, New York with a
degree in Administrative Education. He served as principal at Carthage
Elementary School, later served as Superintendent for the Lyme Central
School, Chaumont, NY, and also served as Superintendent of Oakfield
Alabama Central School in Oakfield, NY until his retirement. Following his
retirement he owned and operated Pokey’s Bar, Restaurant and Campground,
(later named Charlie’s Blue Jay Retreat) in Number Four. He was a member
of the Lowville Baptist Church. He was a member of the Lowville F&AM #134,
and a past member of the Carthage F&AM, he was a member of BPOE #1605,
Lowville, New York, Lions Club in Chaumont, NY and the American Legion and
Fire Dept. of Philadelphia, NY.
He enjoyed watching Western Movies, reading and listening to Country and
Western Music.
